HOMEOPATHY
-
the
Best Alternative System of Medicine
By
Dr.B.P.Sharma, DHMS,PG(R.T.)
The time has come today that the
people have started realising
"what is good for their health and what is not." They
are now switching over to the Homeopathic System of
Medicine which, of late was lying
low due to its lack of availability to the
common people around the world. Despite this fact, it is
the second largest system of medicine being practiced in
the World , after Allopathic
System of Medicine, as acknowledged by the World Health
Organisation. Till late it
was used only by the select class
of people, world-wide, who know the efficacy and
hidden powers of homeopathic medicines for curing any
acute or chronic diseases, without any side effects.
Some well known devotees of homeopathy have included
Queen Elizabeth II and her family, John
D.Rockefeller, Mahatma
Gandhi, Mark Twain, Tina Turner,
Charles Dickens etc.
It is
an established fact that homeopathy which was born in
Germany in 1796, took the world by storm in the 18th
Century and after having introduced and attaining
popularity in USA(including Canada) and Europe, took
its roots in India which has the World's second largest
population
and
is very widely practiced there due to its efficacy and
affordability by the common people. In addition to
private Homeopathic Physicians, there are many
Government run Hospitals and Dispensaries providing
medicare to the
patients in that country.
Its popularity has since spread the world-over, having
already been recognized by
the World Health Organisation
and has now over 500 million patients world wide.
In
Canada,
Homeopathy
was duly regulated in 1869, when the Ontario Medical Act
was passed, (SUP 1869), which integrated
allopaths, homeopaths and
eclectics in a provincial body, the College of
Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). The
integration of three different systems of medicine
within the same regulatory body was quite unique, unlike
the situations in other countries, such as United States
and England due to confrontations between the different
disciplines of the systems of the Medicine. There were
licensed Homeopaths in
Canada and also a Homeopathic Hospital in Montreal which
also included Queen Elizabeth Hospital to train nurses.
However due to confrontations between the disciplines
of the different Medical systems and also due to the
changed population patterns at that time, Homeopathy
could not be continued to be a regulated profession
after 1970 when the Medical Act was replaced by the
Health Disciplines Act, 1974, which was superseded by
the Regulated health Professions Act 1991. Presently,
there are twenty-three self regulating health
professions in the province of Ontario and the Ontario
Homeopathic Association has submitted its proposal for
the regulation of homeopathy in Ontario.
Today, a majority of Allopathic
Doctors have themselves started prescribing Homeopathic
medicines for some diseases which are either incurable
by Allopathic system of medicines or where they cannot
afford to take risk in some patients for the
side-effects of the Allopathic medicines.
This is because, they have
now realised that
Homeopathic medicines which are just minute doses of
botanical and mineral potions, are capable of
stimulating the body to heal miraculously. These minute
doses ( in sweet pills or dilutions) have demonstrated
in curing the diseases which are not only curable but
also incurable by the Allopathic system of medicines,
the list of which (incurable by the
Allopathy) is unending e.g. Asthma, Dermatitis,
Vitiligo, Psoriasis, Tumors,
undiagnosed diseases and some disease requiring surgical
intervention like Gangrene, Tonsillitis, Piles, Kidney
stone, etc.
-Homeopathic system of medicine which
is based on Natural law of cure was founded by Dr.
Samuel Hahnemann, a German
Doctor who perfected the Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia in
1790. It is based on the principle "Similia
Simlibus
Curentur" which
means "Likes cure
likes". It
implies
that symptoms of the diseases manifested by the patients
can be annihilated and removed (thus curing them) only
by a medicine capable of producing (in the human system)
similar symptoms as manifested by the disease. To
elaborate it, I quote some examples; when Cinchona bark
(a herb) is given in material doses to a healthy
individual for some time, it produces, Malaria-like
symptoms in that individual and if it is given in
homeopathic doses to a patient, who is suffering from
Malaria, it cures the patient of Malaria by annihilating
Malaria Parasite. Like-wise when Ipecac (root of
a herb) is taken in high
doses, it causes vomiting but when used in homeopathic
doses, it relieves nausea and vomiting. Another example
is coffee, known to affect sleep for most people. But
when taken in homeopathic does, it
treats 'Sleeplessness' (Insomnia). In such a
manner 'God' has created a variety of herbs, minerals
and other creations in the universe which if
administered to a healthy individual, produces symptoms
exhibited by nearly all the diseases- no matter what the
name is, and at the same time capable of curing them in
the most natural way.
Homeopathy philosophy explains that
when a person gets ill or diseased, his vital force -
which animates the material organism in health and in
disease, gets deranged and makes it known by the
manifestations of diseases i.e. morbid symptoms. It is
the morbidly effected vital force that produces
diseases . It can only be
corrected permanently, by medicines, prescribed in
dynamic form which are made by way of
potentization-which means a
process by which the inert power of medicine is
released - so as to produce
similar and artificial form of totality of symptoms
exhibited due to deranged vital force, in the individual
which (the medicine) annihilates the totality of
symptoms manifested by the disease. The strength of the
medicines is regulated by the Homeopathic Physician who
prescribes the medicines in such manner that it cures
the diseases rapidly, gently, permanently and without
any side effects.
Due to declining quality of medical
care in
Canada today, it is
appropriate for the Government to augment the present
'shrinking' regulated Health Care with Homeopathy
which is highly economical
and has the proven capacity to give the best
alternative health care and satisfaction to the
increasing population of Canada.
